About Rochelle

My journey into professional dog training began with Skye, my husky cross, and, let’s be honest, my greatest teacher. Stubborn, independent, and with a prey drive that could rival a wolf, Skye tested me in ways I never imagined. She wasn’t just difficult; she was a force of nature. Training her wasn’t about quick fixes, it was about understanding her instincts, building trust, and meeting her halfway. What started as a desperate attempt to manage her wild spirit became a deep passion, ultimately leading me to leave my corporate job and dedicate myself to helping others navigate their own dog training challenges.

Then came Pugzly, my rescue pug from Portugal, who had an entirely different set of quirks, abandonment issues, a massive personality in a tiny body, and a love for drama. Between the two of them, I learned that no two dogs are the same, and training is never one-size-fits-all. Every dog, just like every owner, has their own journey, and I’m here to help guide that process with experience, patience, and care.

About Kahu K9 Training

Meaning Of Kahu

At Kahu K9, “Kahu” means guardian, entrusted with what’s most precious. We believe every dog owner carries that role, and our mission is to help you honor it through PRAMA training: Positive Reinforcement And Minimal Aversives. This balanced, compassionate approach creates respect, connection, and a stronger bond between you and your dog.

Kahu K9 was founded by Rochelle, whose journey began with her own four-legged teachers, Skye, a husky cross with an untamed spirit, and Pugzly, a rescue pug with quirks as big as his personality. Together, they taught her understanding, trust, and patience. Today, Rochelle brings that philosophy to every client, guiding owners through their unique challenges with empathy, experience, and care.

What is PRAMA training?

PRAMA stands for Positive Reinforcement and Minimal Aversives, a balanced approach that prioritises rewarding desired behaviours while also implementing fair and appropriate consequences for unwanted behaviours. Positive reinforcement is essential, but learning also comes from understanding boundaries. Just as in nature, every species, including humans, learns through both rewards and consequences. When used correctly, this combination helps dogs make better choices and strengthens communication between us.
